Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson officially owns another championship ring. This one was earned not as a player, but as a part-owner of the Seattle Sounders, who hosted the MLS cup at CenturyLink Field on Sunday and defeated Toronto FC, 3-1, to win their second championship.
Wilson was understandably thrilled with the outcome, not just because the team he owns won, but because he predicted a 3-1 final score prior to the game.
The outpouring of support on social media extended beyond just Wilson however, with a handful of current and former players and coaches taking to Twitter to congratulate the MLS cup winners.
Wilson is part of a minority ownership group, along with rapper Macklemore and Wilson’s wife, Ciara, who announced they were purchasing the Seattle Sounders in August.
Wilson has long been involved in sports beyond the playing field. He and Ciara are investors in the Portland Diamond Project, a group dedicated to getting baseball in Oregon, and he was involved in trying to get the NBA back to Seattle as well.
Wilson was understandably thrilled with Sunday’s result, and took to social media to share his reactions.
Wilson and the Seahawks were able to enjoy this Sounders victory because they had Sunday off, but they’ll be back in action on Monday night against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.
