New York Giants’ Sterling Shepard, Corey...

New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard insists he’s ready to play, but team physicians disagree. As a result, Shepard will once again be watching from home as the team officially ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Shepard has suffered two concussions this season — with both coming over a three-week span — and the team is being exceptionally careful with their budding young star.

Whether Shepard is able to return in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys remains to be seen, but he said earlier this week that he should receive the green light by then.

In Shepard’s absence, Golden Tate will once again move into the slot as Cody Latimer, Darius Slayton and Bennie Fowler round out the wide receivers.

In addition to Shepard, the Giants also ruled out rookie cornerback/kick returner Corey Ballentine, who is also dealing with a concussion.

The good news? Running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), linebacker Lorenzo Carter (ankle) and the aforementioned Cody Latimer (quad) were full participants in Friday’s practice and did not receive a designation. All three are expected to play on Sunday.
