Jets sure could use Josh McCown right now

The Jets will see a familiar face on the Eagles’ sideline on Sunday. Josh McCown came out of retirement to back up Carson Wentz and now will face his former teammates.

The Jets certainly could use McCown right now. Luke Falk struggled mightily in his first start two weeks ago against the Patriots and he may start again this week if Sam Darnold’s spleen does not shrink soon. Falk’s struggles are understandable. He belongs on the practice squad right now, not the starting lineup.

McCown would be a perfect backup for the Jets, but he was undecided about his future in March, and the Jets could not wait for him. They ended up signing Trevor Siemian, who played 1 ½ quarters against the Browns before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.

McCown did end up retiring and began a career in broadcasting, but changed his mind when the Eagles came calling in August. He has played in one game this year, completing 3-of-5 passing attempts.

During his two years with the Jets, “Uncle Josh” was an extremely popular teammate and a good leader. He helped Darnold through his rookie season and played well for a stretch in 2017.

McCown left his mark during his short stint with the Jets and they probably wish they still had him this week.
