On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys are going to New Orleans for their toughest matchup yet this season. Here are three things you can expect to see.
Quarterback Drew Brees is still out with his thumb injury which is good news. There are still some other things to look out for as well.
#1 – Jaylon Smith following Alvin Kamara
Running back Alvin Kamara is an amazing talent that has shown his ability to not only run extremely well but also to line up as a receiver and catch the ball. He is very quick and is arguably the most dangerous weapon on that offense.
The Dallas Cowboys will need to watch him at all times when he is on the field. To do this, they should have speedy linebacker Jaylon Smith shadowing him. This should at least limit Kamara in the passing game, with linebacker Leighton Vander Esch helping out on the runs.
Why not LVE? He does not have the speed or agility to be able to keep up with Kamara. He is without a doubt a great tackler and a smart player, but his legs leave him vulnerable against someone as speedy as Kamara.
Lastly, linebacker Sean Lee. He was leading the Cowboys for a long time before LVE and Smith came and dominated. His football IQ is unbelievable and he remains a great tackler, but much like LVE his speed and agility aren’t there.
So far this season, Smith hasn’t looked as good as he usually does. It could very well be (and I sure hope) just a slow start to the season. Being given the task of watching Kamara is no easy task, and this is the perfect time for Smith to show up.
